With the holidays approaching, you will likely be traveling more than usual, which can be cause for anxiety. I travel a lot, so I know firsthand how tough it can be to stick to a proper diet while away from home. I travel frequently for my sport and sometimes the flight schedules and transfers can be crazy. The good news is, I have been following following protocol for 5 years now and can say that it is getting easier and easier to travel as healthier options are becoming more widely available.
Preparation is the key to making this way of life work for you.
1. Do your research.
I always look up the menus and food reviews at the hotel where I’ll be staying and make sure I have options. That way, if I have questions, I can call ahead and talk to the staff and come up with some options for myself while I’m there.
2. Bring your own food.
This one is a must, and has been an absolute lifesaver for me. Plenty of healthy foods don’t require refrigeration and are completely portable. These include protein bars, high protein snacks, nuts and dried fruits. The list goes on.
3. Pack your supplements.
When you’re traveling, the last thing you want to do is worry about forgetting your essential supplements. Make sure to pack all of the supplements you take on a daily basis, plus some additional “safety” supplements. I pack along some digestive enzymes for those days where I have to attend dinners and entertain. I also pack along a good probiotic and Vitamin C for crazy flight schedules and my single serve Blade Sport Whey so I get a quick high quality protein even on flight.
4. Find a Supermarket
I always check for a supermarket near my hotel to get some good quality water and other essentials. And upon checking in thats my first stop to scout what they have so that on those days I need anything I know were to get it.
